Merthyr Tydfil Borough Credit Union is a financial service, allowing members of the community to have access to low cost, ethical loans and secure savings.
Unlike banks, they are owned and controlled by their members and believe that everyone should get a fair deal.
Members of a Credit Union save regularly and these savings are used to make loans to other members. They charge ethical rates, which cover the core running costs of the Credit Union. Any surplus profit is then shared to members through a dividend.
Alongside their office in the town centre, their volunteers host a range of drop-in, ‘pay points’ throughout the borough where people who are unable to travel to their office can still access their services. They also hold weekly saving schemes in over 30 schools within the borough, making sure they are there for all their members, at all ages.
