Merthyr Tydfil’s Very First Virtual Christmas

One of the most popular annual events in Merthyr town centre is the Christmas Fun Day, Lights Switch On and visiting the Traditional Christmas Market. Sadly, this year most Christmas events, Markets & Fayres worldwide will be closed. But Christmas is not cancelled in Merthyr Tydfil town centre, it will just be different, as We Love Merthyr, St Tydfil Shopping Centre, and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council have joined forces to bring the spirit and atmosphere of a Festive Christmas online and into your homes. Just as you would expect from an in-person event – there will be unique vendors, live entertainment, family activities, and so much more!

Join us on Facebook from 5pm on Saturday 28th November when we will be bringing Christmas magic safely, and cosily to your homes with local singers and a live broadcast from the Capital FM Headquarters, hosted by Josh and Kally and Santa Clause himself! Enjoy special interviews, a Christmas giveaway, and some surprises along the way as we light up houses throughout Merthyr Tydfil with festive excitement.

From 1st December there will be the 12 days of Christmas advent calendar where you can win amazing prizes every day. Just visit the page each day, and follow the instructions for your chance to win a prize.

Look out for our virtual Christmas Market between 1st – 19th December where you will find some cracking deals, fabulous products, and unique gifts to purchase from many of our town centre businesses. Brew up the hot chocolate, crack open the mince pies, get cosy, and shop from the comfort of your own home.

At 6 pm on Friday 4th December, Tiny the Elf will be broadcasting LIVE from the North Pole to your living room to bring amazing festive fun to your home. Learn what it takes to be a Christmas Elf – with fun challenges and Christmas spirit for the whole family……expect to be Elf Marching, learning Elf skills, and most importantly, playing an amazing Christmas Elf themed treasure hunt around your home. You don’t have to go anywhere, but decorations, elf/Santa hats, cocoa and cookies, are highly recommended!

Saturday 12th December is Children’s Fun Day. With festive community performances and fun and exciting Christmas activities to really get your little ones excited about the festive season. You provide the tinsel, and we’ll provide the songs, dancing, games, and fun, to light up your house with festive excitement and Christmas magic.

With so many of us dearly missing family members, friends, and loved ones, we hope to bring some Christmas cheer to some on the final day of our event on Saturday 19th December with a series of video messages from their nearest and dearest. It may not be the same as seeing each other in person, but it will be a lovely gesture to show the people we care about that we are thinking of them.

Christmas may be different for all of us this year, but here’s to making the best of it!
