Food & Drink
A Local Trail through Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil has changed over the several decades and not least in the way it cooks its food, the availability of such food supplies (no longer it seems only ‘food in season’) and in changing habits of leisure time focused on pubs and clubs.
At the time of writing, gin is in the ascendancy; locally crafted beers are making an impact. Takeaway fast food is universal and of several continents: Chinese cuisine, American-style burgers, Turkish kebabs, the flavours from the Indian sub-continent, Portuguese dishes, Polish deli outlets. And of a local recipe: the best that this town can do is a heavy, pastry crusted meat pie, filling as an inexpensive comfort food!
