Merthyr Tydfil launches new high street app to promote local spend at businesses in the area

Merthyr Tydfil BID, The Big Heart of Merthyr Tydfil has launched a new partnership with multi-award-winning app LoyalFree, as part of the area’s recovery plan from Covid-19. Merthyr Tydfil has become the 1st Welsh partnership for LoyalFree, but the 36th area in the UK to launch the high street platform. The app is designed to boost footfall and sales in the town by encouraging consumers to shop local safely.

LoyalFree is an innovative digital platform that showcases vital area information for locals and visitors including a local guide, exclusive deals and loyalty schemes, fun local events and interesting trails. BID members will benefit from advertising opportunities, customer insights and social media support and the dynamic app allows users to benefit from using just one app across the UK – so they can tap into the local area wherever they are!

Merthyr Tydfil BID is a business-led and funded initiative working to create the best environment for local businesses to succeed. Encompassing hundreds of businesses within the town centre, the benefits of the app will be available to all members. Local businesses already signed up include The Beauty Box, ReGenerate, Gloden Tanning and JNP Legal to mention just a few.

Elizabeth Bedford, We Love Merthyr BID Co-ordinator, said ‘‘We are excited to be able to offer this digital platform to our businesses at this crucial time. We hope it will encourage more people to support the local high street and look forward to more amazing businesses making the most of this opportunity’’.

LoyalFree’s digital trails are one-way app users can explore the town’s history, hidden gems and best independents. There are already some exciting trails live on the app including the Square Hopping Trail, Merthyr at Play and Look Up In Merthyr; a trail encouraging the walker to look UP and view what is above eye level, exploring a different angle on the town’s rich history.

Sophie Hainsworth, co-founder of LoyalFree, said: ‘‘We are ecstatic to be working with We Love Merthyr BID on this digital initiative across the area. The town has a lovely variety of amazing businesses and we look forward to seeing more businesses take advantage of what the app has to offer.’’
